St Margaret's Steps Luxury appartment sleeps 8

Our property, St. Margaret’s Steps, is part of a Grade II listed building, one of the oldest in Topsham with deeds that go back as far as 1765. Lovingly refurbished, this 3 - 4 bedroom property with its own large garden space is right in the heart of the beautiful estuary town of Topsham. We hope you will love its character, views and location.

The space
On the first floor of the property there is a lounge with glorious views of the church, large kitchen/ diner and a large bedroom with a bed that can be used as either a double bedroom or as two single beds. There is also a family bathroom and a separate toilet on this floor.

Upstairs is the master bedroom with king size bed a smaller bedroom with two single beds and a study that has two plush chairs that convert into comfortable single beds. Both upstairs bedrooms have direct access to the master bathroom (Jack and Jill style) but both bedrooms have separate staircases in order to get downstairs (You have to pass through the study from the Smaller bedroom).

Please note that there are steep steps up to our front door. Ours are the top two floors of the four-story Georgian house. This means that we get the best views over the churchyard and estuary and also our lovely courtyard garden. The stairs are non-slip and firm but please consider this prior to booking.

Topsham is very easy to get to by a range of transport methods:

By train: Topsham is close to Exeter, which is connected directly to London
Paddington (travel time about 2.5-3 hrs, depending on the train). Either get off at Exeter St. David’s and take a taxi or take the quick connection to Topsham and walk (8 mins). Trains also run from London Waterloo to Exeter but it takes a lot longer (about 3.5 hours).

By car: Topsham is off J30 of the M5. Our postcode is EX3 0HW for SatNav
purposes. It should take about 10-15 minutes once you leave the motorway.

We would suggest that you put the postcode into your Satnav so that you can locate the property (in the churchyard - more details below), pull over in front of the church to unload any heavy bags and continue to find parking. There is only limited parking immediately outside the flat and these spaces are 1 hour stay only (free after 5pm).

If you continue to the bottom of Fore Street (it’s one way), there is a small roundabout. Turn right and you are in the quay car park. This is pay and display in the day time and free over night This car park is bigger in the summer). If you turn left at the round about instead, you will be on Holman Way. This is the road the station is on. There is pay and display parking all the way up this road (free over night) and half way up the road there is another car park which is again pay and display

Other things to note
Topsham is a charming small town with a large village feel to it. It gained
prosperity during the 1700s through [wool] trade with the Netherlands. Indeed, several Dutch settled here and you will note the characteristic Dutch roofline of some of the houses, particularly along the Strand.

It has a bustling high street (Fore Street, which the property overlooks on one side) with a Co-Op but also many independent shops, including wonderful butcher, greengrocer and cheese shops. The fish stall sells fresh fish on [...]. It also has many charity shops (with some quite incredible and fast-selling bargains) and an antiques mall on the quay.
